When buying textiles for children, it is important to make sure that they are completely safe and will not harm them. That’s why it’s crucial to check whether they have the right certifications.

Nowadays, store shelves are overflowing with millions of different products designed for the youngest. When buying textiles, more and more parents consider and check how and from what materials they were produced. The idea is that they should be of the highest quality and completely safe. It is with such consumers in mind, who want to know what they are dealing with, that certificates were created. That is why it is so important to check them.

One should be careful

It is well known that the information “100% Cotton” does not indicate good quality material. Today, the production of cotton products often leaves much to be desired. Many times numerous chemicals are used for this. These are used even during the cultivation of cotton. Through this, chemicals can harm the health of the child, cause allergic reactions, etc.

In addition, it should not be forgotten that for the production of clothes in some countries, children are often used for labor, and even the work of adults is done in dire conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to buy clothes from verified sources.

Global Organic Textile Standard – the most popular certification

The most popular certification when it comes to children’s clothes is the Global Organic Textile Stndard (GOTS). This document applies to the entire production and what cotton the product is made of. In this case, the consumer is assured that the textiles have been produced in an ethical and environmentally friendly manner. The consumer, buying children’s clothes with such a certificate, can be sure that everything meets strict standards and the product was made from at least 95 percent natural raw materials (only in some cases – this applies to socks or sportswear – it can be 70 percent). GOTS-certified textiles are made without the use of numerous chemicals – nickel, chromium PVC, which are carcinogenic and dangerous for an adult, let alone a child.

Oeko-Tex Standard 100

Another safety mark when it comes to textiles is Oeko-Tex Standard 100. When you buy children’s clothes with this mark, you can be sure that they do not contain pesticides and chlorophenols, as well as many other harmful substances. These fabrics are also free of heavy metals and dyes that can cause allergies. What is important is that in order to receive such a certificate, the product is tested at every stage of production. Therefore, a parent can be sure that he buys his child clothing or blankets that are completely safe for him….
