How to separate study and play areas in a child’s room?

Do you want to create a place for your children where they can spend time on education and fun? It is worth paying attention to several things that will make education comfortable and play safe.

Learning zone

If you have a large, spacious apartment and a spare room, think about turning it into a study room for your kids. Equip it with bookshelves, desks, chairs, etc.

Parents with smaller homes should consider setting aside a space in their kids’ bedroom, part of a home office, a low-traffic corner or some other unused space in their home. A cell under the stairs straight out of Harry Potter might not be a bad idea either, and kids are sure to enjoy likening themselves to characters from their favorite movie. When deciding to create a study space, remember to keep it free of distractions, with plenty of natural light and good air circulation.

Desk

This is the most important element in the study area. Choose furniture that is sturdy and durable and age appropriate. Standard desks are usually simple, rectangular, and made of wood or other material. Some designs have additional amenities and features, like cabinets and drawers for storage. A wooden option is an apt purchase if you want it to serve your child for years.

Wall desks will be a great choice for people who don’t have enough space to create a study area for their children. They can be attached to any area in the apartment, and they don’t take up space on the floor.

Chair

Investing in a decent chair for your child is an investment in their posture and healthy spine. The market offers a wide range of designs, from the most classic wooden chairs to chairs with arms, with a board, gaming chairs and many others. The chair you buy must adequately support your child’s back and blend well with the fabric, the height of the desk and the style of the area.

Lighting

Lighting is especially important when designing a study area because of the time your child will spend writing and reading. It is recommended to use natural lighting by choosing a space that has windows. Sunlight has a beneficial effect on children’s eyes and their overall health. Remember not to place the desk directly in the sun, as the light can be too bright and distracting.

Play area

In case you don’t have enough space to separate a proper play area, it might be a good idea to use one of the main walls in your living room or dining room. The walls can be painted with whiteboard paint, which will allow your kids to develop their imagination and who knows? Maybe one day they will become artists. Moreover, it will be great fun for all family members.

Playing with colors

If you don’t have a separate room that can be used as a playroom, a colorful rug or floor tiles can be a great way to designate a separate play area. This will keep smaller rooms open without the need to put up a screen or a wall of furniture as a dividing wall.

Furniture

In contrast to the study area, here we need to take care of rather low furniture, without sharp edges, so that children do not hurt themselves. As far as chairs are concerned, a great solution will be a ball puff, which will also fit nicely to children’s tables. It will also work well as seats or footstools for adults.

Storage

When separating the play area, don’t forget to allocate a small amount of storage space for items, games, etc. This will go a long way in reducing the growing clutter as more toys arrive. Also, you can divide things into those that are currently meant to be in the play area and those that are meant to be in the storage area. This way, kids will be less overwhelmed by the choices, and when they need other toys, you can simply pull them out and replace them on the fly.
